Helen Palmer è una studentessa d’arte molto talentuosa. La sua passione per l’arte però non comprende solo la materia in sé, ingloba anche Mr Roberts, il suo mentore. Lei ne è perdutamente innamorata, però cerca in tutti i modi di non far capire a lui quanto sia profondo questo amore. Perché Helen è convinta che non si tratti di una semplice cotta. Lei, Mr Roberts lo ama.
Un giorno però accade l’imprevedibile. Mr Roberts si imbatte nell’album da disegno personale di Helen e si vede ritratto in circostanze molto particolari. Subito viene colpito dalle scene rappresentate. Più che altro fa un frontale senza airbag con le passioni nascoste della sua studentessa più meritevole.

Inutile dire che l’uomo che c’è in lui parte per la tangente. Però Mr Roberts deve cercare di spiegare a Helen che non può esserci nulla tra di loro perché lui è il suo professore. Helen ha tutta la vita davanti e tantissima strada ancora da percorrere. Eppure, più lui cerca di intortarla più lei si arrabbia e si fa insistente. È stufa di sentirsi dire che la sua cotta non è nulla di importante.

Certo è che sentirsi fare dichiarazioni con tanta convinzione e passione fa vacillare il professore. Helen sa ciò che vuole e ora che le carte sono in tavola farà di tutto per portare a casa il piatto vincente.

Ma le insicurezze di una ragazzina sono sempre presenti. Perché il suo adorato professore aveva una compagna e ora lei non c’è più. Potrà mai Helen essere all’altezza di un uomo come lui, un uomo vero?
